My Plan Will Be Directed in Four Key Positions:
 

- Sponsor anti-drug/gang assemblies, to bring to light at-risk behavior and potential consequences for poor decisions.

- Implement the “My Child Protection Program” to educate parents and children with kits and training aides.  This will assist families in teaching how to answer phones and doors, stay safe at home alone, prevent accidental house fires, and who to call in case of an emergency.

    2.) Provide REAL community oriented policing
- Be proactive with awareness training on how people can deter crime through proper community and individual environmental design.
- Increase volunteerism in the community by introducing the “Behind the Badge Program”

* Youth Chapter (inter-agency activity providing an opportunity for students in districts to speak with deputies and school resource officers about high risk activities such as drug abuse, gang activity, and how to stay safe.)

* Neighborhood councils (inter-agency activity for local police/deputy to speak directly with citizens about criminal activities and safety concerns in their respective neighborhoods.)

The “Behind the Badge Program” is a pro-active approach to policing.  It will aid in greater community involvement, police response, and safety, and volunteerism through our communities.

    3.) Proceed with greater fiscal responsibility.
- Implementation of programs with lower recidivism rates, that assists jail inmates in dealing with anger management, drug abuse, addiction, and community re-entry.
- Take out frills and wasteful spending office-wide. (i.e. Cutting wasteful, ineffective programs with inmates at our jail, etc.)
- Implement job-training programs, which will bring in revenue, and teach inmates applicable job skills they can use upon their release. 
- Provide additional Deputy training in crisis intervention, inter-personal communication, mental illness awareness, and stress management. 
- Conducting this training in-house will reduce costs and allow for quicker deployment of programs.
- Implement measures to educate, train, and promote from within the Sheriff’s Office before looking to outside agencies to fill positions.  This training will require all new deputies to begin their careers in the jail.  By following a career development program I have created, they will have opportunities for promotion and transition to other divisions such as judicial services, search and rescue, patrol, or the detectives’ bureau. 

- Promote Zero Tolerance Drug Enforcement

- Promote Zero Tolerance Gang Enforcement

- Promote Technology Crime Awareness Program for the elderly and     

   other vulnerable community members.

To ensure these new programs are properly started, I will donate $30,000 of my own base pay as Sheriff, to ensure the success, and new community oriented direction the Sheriff’s Office is going to take.  I truly believe hard working tax payers deserve more. These programs, and new direction for the Sheriff’s Office, will make an immediate and positive effect in our communities, and Great County.
